Rules were broken, great progress was made, and women looked absolutely fab throughout the decade. Let’s take a look at three women who defined fashion in the 60s.

Twiggy

Lesley Hornby, who went by the name of Twiggy, was the face of London’s swinging 60s. She was just a teenager when she became internationally famous, and her unique look, with a slender figure and a rocking pixie crop, made her the most recognizable model around. Her image was ubiquitous, complete with Andy Warhol’s prints of her, and her style still inspires.

Jackie Kennedy

Jackie Kennedy reinvented what it meant to be First Lady. She never stepped out without being the most stylish woman in the room, and she was much envied and imitated. Even after her husband’s assassination, she maintained her image that was both classy and eyepopping.

Audrey Hepburn

No actress defined all things glamorous in the 60s as Audrey Hepburn did. With Breakfast at Tiffany’s, she made little black dresses a sensation, and six decades later they are still an essential part of a woman’s wardrobe.

Audrey always looked ravishing, whether she was fully decked out in extravagant outfits or more dressed down in a way that looked effortless even as she dazzled. It is no wonder movie stars today still look to her for inspiration.
